The Basehor-Linwood Board of Education appointed Jared Jackson as the replacement for the board seat vacated by Jeremy Davis upon his move from Basehor. Jackson will hold Position #7, the At-Large seat, for the remainder of Davis’ term through December 2027.
A former administrator at Basehor-Linwood High School, Jackson is familiar with how the district operates and how the Board works, but was motivated to seek this position on the Board because of his desire to give back to the school and community.
“I believe my past experience of 20 years of teaching, coaching and administrative work has given me the opportunity to see the full perspective of a school system,” Jackson said, adding that his current career gives him valuable experience in human resources, finance, and legal issues, as well. Jackson is also currently a parent in the district, serves as a Basehor-Linwood Mentor, and is a member of the Basehor-Linwood Education Foundation.
Jackson continued, “Education is the backbone of our communities of Basehor and Linwood, and I believe the role of the BOE is to provide a voice to our community and support the administrative team and staff, which will help support the growth of our communities and a successful future for our district.”
Jackson will take his seat at the January 12 meeting along with the newly elected members for Position #5 -John Zimbelman and Position #6 - Ross Schwisow.
John Zimbelman will replace Tim Hill, who did not run for re-election after serving for eight years on the Board of Education. Zimbelman has lived in the district for 6 years and is a parent of two students who attend BLHS, and he currently serves as the Fire Chief in Tonganoxie.
“I look forward to focusing on fiscal responsibility and the safety of our students,” Zimbelman said. “I will be advocating for more cost effective investments that improve our students’ abilities to learn, with safe and updated facilities, without asking more from our taxpayers.”
Ross Schwisow will replace Richard Bazemore, who served on the Board for four years. Schwisow was also previously employed by the Basehor-Linwood School District as Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at BLHS, and as the Strength & Conditioning instructor prior to becoming an administrator. He is also a parent in the district, and has lived in Basehor for 18 years.
“We are raising our family here and the district has changed immensely over the last 18 years,” Schwisow said. “One of the biggest things for me is to make sure we continue to be forward-thinking and to keep the culture and community feel we already have as we continue growing, but not to be afraid of the changes that growth will bring.”
